Elias Brookings Elementary School
Custodians
Kevin Rivers, Richard Stennet,
Joe Shea, and Aedan Moynihan
My father Jack Pedace was my hero.
He was also my Elementary and
Middle School Principal, which meant I followed him around everywhere,
including when he opened school
in the morning…
I watched his every move and learned from him about school maintenance and operations; but more importantly,
I learned from him that School Custodians are incredibly valuable people and resources; and that having trusting positive relationships and communicating and collaborating together is paramount in managing a happy healthy school
with a positive building culture…
For my eighteen years at Brookings, I have been truly blessed by Custodians who are dedicated, knowledgeable, organized,
compassionate, funny, strong, accommodating, and patient in
helping me help our students…
I feel especially grateful for our Head Custodian Kevin Rivers, who always thoughtfully responds to whatever
crazy idea or request I throw at him…
Kevin and crew and Custodians across the Country are awesome and appreciated; and serve with a purpose of a clean, safe school, but more especially, a purpose of helping our students and
educators feel comfortable in our
home away from home…
Thank you, Kevin, Richard, Joe, and Aedan!

Inner City Youth Scuba and Diving
Since October 2022, a groundbreaking initiative has been making a splash
in the lives of young people in
Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Inner City-Youth Scuba Dive Team is the brainchild of Mr. Christopher Sutton, Principal of Rebecca Johnson School and
a certified scuba diver.
The team is dedicated to providing young people with the opportunity to become proficient swimmers and certified scuba divers. This transformative experience aims to open up a world of possibilities…
The inspiration for the Inner City-Youth Scuba Dive Team came from Mr. Sutton’s recognition of the limited access to swimming and diving for many young people in Springfield. Scuba diving has traditionally been an exclusive activity, often out of reach for inner-city youth.
Mr. Sutton, who is passionate about sharing the wonders of the ocean, envisioned a program that could bridge this gap and provide Springfield’s youth with access to this unique and enriching activity. Research has found that Scuba Training provides life-long benefits and improves mental and
physical health, confidence,
communication, and teamwork.

East Springfield Veterinary Hospital
East Springfield Veterinary Hospital, Inc. (ESVH) is more than an
organization or business.
We are family, leaders, and caregivers.
Our father, Richard A. Hersman, DVM, established East Springfield Veterinary Hospital in 1980. After he passed in 1999,
we, Amy Hersman Zander and Andrew R. Hersman, DVM, joined the team
to serve our clients, making us family owned for almost 50 years…
Every day offers us an opportunity to advocate for animals because we love what we do. In addition, we have a unique opportunity to care for humans as well.
Our commitment is to keep people safe and healthy, by keeping their beloved pets healthy. The bond between human and animal is very strong. We have the privilege of ensuring that bond stays healthy and deepens over time. We have such a unique place in society,
bridging the world between
human species and animal species.
We have had the privilege of supporting generations of humans; from their excitement of attaining a young puppy/kitten to the trials and tribulations of aging pets. We feel it is such an honor and a true testament of our
long-lasting relationships,
when children grow up and
bring their own pets to see us!
Trust is tested by time, and
we are so grateful to
share our love to our communities...

Tirra Hargrow and
the Global Education Center
Tirra Hargrow, Teaching Artist, Fitness Instructor and Social Media Manager for the Global Education Center
Our mission is to use the arts of diverse cultures to highlight what connects us all—promoting awareness, empathy, and respect across communities.
We believe fairness and justice are basic human rights for all.
Our purpose is to embrace the oneness of humanity through multicultural arts programming that dispels myths, dismantles stereotypes, and builds understanding. We educate and train children, families, artists, and educators, while offering safe spaces for cultural exploration, dialogue, and community. By connecting diverse artists with schools and organizations, and empowering them through teaching and performance opportunities,
Global serves as a model for using the arts to foster unity and respect.
I joined the Global Education Center as a budding African dancer and found so much more—a passport to the world without leaving Nashville. For 15 years, Global has enriched my life, deepening my connection to my Afro heritage and introducing me to cultures across Africa and the diaspora. Through Nyama African Drum & Dance Ensemble, teaching children, and leading classes like the SharQui Bellydance Workout, I’ve had the joy of sharing culture while promoting health and community.
I am grateful to be part of a team
dedicated to bringing people together through the arts.

Meg Colenbeck and Henry the Therapy Dog
Henry, a black lab, is Williston’s new therapy dog. He is a fully trained service dog, who came to Williston thanks to the efforts of Director of Mental Health Counseling Meg Colenback.
“We’re always thinking about different levels of mental health here,” Colenback said. “When a student is in a high emotional state, Henry will be here. My hope is students who wouldn’t necessarily make a connection with me,
will make a connection with Henry.
As part of his training, Henry can execute 63 commands with Colenback, including things like giving a high five and saluting. He will also spend time with the Active Minds club, Williston’s student-led group that focuses on mental and physical health and well-being, as their “mascot”
“I would love for Active Minds to present on how dogs can help with mental health,” Colenback said. “We’re going to convert a room upstairs into a place where he can just hang out with students. They don’t have to talk to me—if they can calm themselves using him or
just relieve their stress, that’s OK.”

Tyson Jones
Tyson Jones is a School Adjustment Counselor at Ben Swan Elementary School and a Content Creator.
Growing up in Albany, New York, music was always at the center of many of my daily activities, and was always a conversation between family, friends, and peers. Whether it was talking about the latest music that just dropped or talking about our favorite albums, music, specifically Hip-Hop, was always something that brought people together, no matter their background...
This passion led me to start content creation, making content about all the latest Hip-Hop news, and giving my thoughts and opinions on the genre.
How I like to inspire is through my passion for what I talk about, but also by showing how important it is to be able to have different outlets to express yourself, and also, since I am a Black man, being able to show that BIPOC people aren't a monolith in how we express ourselves.
There are different paths forward
beyond the stereotypes.
