When I was younger, we would put an extra candle on our birthday cake for good luck.
In honor of what would have been my beloved brother John’s 59 birthday this year,
I am adding a candle for good luck.
Making it 60!
Those candles represent life.
And light.
Points.
Leading.
And guiding.
A life.
Of love.
Compassion.
Kindness.
Of humanness.
Of humanity.
Light reminds me of John.
Especially during his final days.
He was always seeking light.
And warmth.
And peace.
Wrapped in a blanket.
Looking out his back window.
Sunlight caressing his face.
Sometimes offering solace.
Sometimes.
Hope.
In the glow.
In the nourish.
Of nature.
Of the habitats.
And life.
Growing in his woods and gardens.
Where his birds.
Rested in his feeders.
Where his pups.
Frolicked in the grass.
In the days before his body’s final betrayal.
John was out there.
Taking photographs.
Capturing life.
Quirky.
Cool.
Heavy.
Uplifting.
His discoveries.
Always made him smile.
He often shared those smiles with me.
Sending me the pics.
Knowing I would love them.
For their aesthetics.
But more so.
Because he wanted to share the light.
With me.
And now.
I want to share those smiles.
With you.
Since his passing in June 2017.
I have been collecting photographs.
That make me smile.
And think of John.
He loved his family. Friends. Players. Students. Kids. Sports. Animals. Music. Movies.
His taste.
Eclectic.
Thank You for Inspiring is founded on these points.
Of light.
Of good humans.
Good hearts.
Good moments.
Appreciating all.
In honor of John.
And all the good humans in our world.
